GST Registration Threshold Check
Check whether your freelance or service business needs GST registration based on turnover and state.
When does a freelancer need GST?
Service providers must register once aggregate turnover crosses ₹20 lakh in a year, or ₹10 lakh in special category states. Aggregate turnover includes taxable supplies, exempt supplies and exports, across all your registrations under the same PAN.
Why registering early can still help
If your clients are GST-registered businesses, they can claim input credit on your invoice. Registering also lets you claim credit on the GST you pay for software, equipment and services.
After you register
You issue GST invoices, file returns on time and charge tax, typically 18% for professional services. Use the GST calculator to add or remove GST from a price.
Thresholds and special cases can change. Confirm on the GST portal or with a professional before deciding.
Frequently asked questions
